Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a very big game, made in a very quick development window. It's no surprise then that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is rife with bugs small and large. Treyarch's astonishingly quick to fix these bugs, of course. It's just part of the job at this point. Yet sometimes funny situations come along that are as perplexing as they are frustrating, for players as well as devs. For example, the return of a bug from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

The bug in question has to do with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Gunship scorestreak. Once the scorestreak is achieved, activating it involves the player character taking out a laptop and having their perspective changed to that of the gunship. The bug, however, denies the player their scorestreak by ending the gunship activation early and closing the laptop just seconds after it has been opened. This isn't the first time Call of Duty players have seen the Gunship bug, however.

According to a post on Reddit, user Pony_Baloney recalls experiencing the exact same bug all the way back in 2018 while playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. They explain that after activating the Gunship and opening the laptop, a message saying that the Gunship is "Out of Fuel" will be shown and the laptop will close. Pony_Baloney says that they submitted bug reports to Treyarch about this issue specifically several times in 2018. However, it was never fixed and has now returned to haunt them in 2020.

As silly and frustrating as the bug's return may be, it's not altogether unexpected. As Pony_Baloney says in their post, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has likely inherited a significant amount of code from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. As such, the Black Ops Cold War bug was almost certainly transmitted to the new game from the old.

Just because players, and developers at Treyarch too, know about the existence of the bug doesn't mean that anyone knows how to fix the problem. If Treyarch did, it would be fixed by now. That a bug would persist through two games likely implies it's a very complicated issue to fix, or at least more complicated than players understand.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
