The Outbreak mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is full of interesting side activities to complete, ranging from a dragon encounter to a battle with Orda. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans can also do a bit of fishing in the mode, though one fan’s attempt did not go as planned.

Added during Season 3 reloaded, Outbreak’s fishing mechanic works like one would expect. Players toss a lure into bodies of water, with the areas ranging from rivers to ponds. Once cast, players simply need to wait for a bit, pulling the trigger at the right time to reel in a reward. A simple mechanic that sees players getting neat rewards like perk cans and armor vests, fishing is one of the safest things that players can do while exploring the Ural Mountains.

However, though fishing is usually uneventful, there are a few scares to be had. While nearly every item that players fish up in Outbreak is harmless, they can also collect a boot that transforms into a Mimic mini boss. This has resulted in several funny clips, with unsuspecting players often shocked by the transformation. As such, many may have predicted that this would be the focus of Mathiasxd148-‘s Reddit post. However, their bad fishing experience was much different from the norm, as it saw something other than a mimic attacking.

After the player casts their rod into Sanatorium’s waters, they feel safe enough to check their mini map. However, this false sense of security led to a major jump scare, with the surprise taking the form of one of the toughest Call of Duty Zombies enemies. As the player waits to see which Outbreak fishing reward they will get, a Krasny Soldat leaps in front of them. Landing right on the pier, the armored foe begins to damage the unlucky fisherman.

With the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War player still in the fishing animation, they are quickly downed by the hulking enemy. Given how dangerous the Krasny Soldat can be, seeing it show up completely out of the blue is something that no Zombies fan would want to experience. Likely caused by the player’s teammate leaving a fight unfinished, as the aggressive Soldat’s may have moved on to a closer target, the moment is a good mix of entertaining and scary. For those that find themselves in a situation like this one, Redditor LenGreyhawk has confirmed that pressing the circle button will cancel the fishing animation.

Had Mathiasxd148- known that they could stop fishing, perhaps they could have escaped the Soldat. On the bright side, at least they will be extra careful when dealing with this foe when it returns in Mauer Der Toten.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
