The next era of first-person shooter has arrived with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The newest entry in the Black Ops franchise gives players plenty of new weapons, maps, and even a merge with the current Call of Duty: Warzone battle royale mode. As players are discovering all of the new changes introduced in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, one of the biggest questions has been about finishing moves.

How to Execute Finishing Moves

First introduced in Modern Warfare and Warzone, a finishing move is a melee kill that comes with some sort of flashy animation. This is useful when players need to make sure they take an enemy down, show off their fun execution, or if they want to silently eliminate someone without expending ammo or throwing knives. Just like in the previous entry, all a player has to do in Cold War is hold the melee button when behind an enemy's back.

When to Use Finishing Moves

Finishing moves are tricky in that there is a time and place to attempt one. Modern Warfare players discovered how to escape finishing moves using a specific throwing knife trick, but that appears to be the only counter. The animation sometimes takes several seconds, which gives other enemies the chance to notice the player. Finishing moves are never recommended during the heat of battle while bullets are flying all around. Most of the time, this is the perfect tactic for when players notice an enemy that has moved away from the others or is camped in a quiet place using one of the new Black Ops Cold War snipers.

Which Perks Can Help

There are a few perks that drastically increase the effectiveness of attempting a finishing move. Ninja is an obvious choice, as it reduces the player’s movement sounds in Black Ops Cold War and allows them to sneak up on the enemy much more easily. Another great perk for this is Tracker, which causes enemy footprints to show up on the ground. These two can combine perfectly for players that want to stalk and execute enemies.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold war is expected to outperform Modern Warfare based on pre-sales, so it is a great opportunity to expand upon previous game features. Finishing moves seem to be an addition that fans have really enjoyed in Modern Warfare and Warzone, so it made sense to keep it for Cold War. While there isn’t a ton of fun customization for them yet, it is only a matter of time before some are added to the game.

Modern Warfare introduced many fun finishing moves, such as sending an attack bat to bite enemies. One that many players dislike turns players into 16-bit pixels. Hopefully, Black Ops Cold War will learn from this and make the finishers in the new game more realistic. The game just released, so there is a ton of potential for finishing moves in the coming year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
