Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is in the midst of Season 1, and today, Treyarch kicked off its mid-season content drops. While there is plenty of content to see in the update, one surprising addition sees a classic map from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 making a comeback in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

Announced in the blog post, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Express map is making a comeback. Joining fellow Black Ops 2 map Raid in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the returning location has been remembered fondly by players due to its intriguing map design. Featuring “a high-tech train station” and “skybridges,” the location was a favorite among fans back when it first appeared in 2012's Call of Duty offering.

Purely a visual upgrade, players can expect the map to maintain much of the original’s style, with the only real difference to its gameplay loop coming from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s movement systems. Those experienced with the layout will surely make use of the train station’s glass ceiling for scorestreaks, while newer players are likely to die to the bullet train at least a few times. Fortunately, players will not have to wait long to play on the beloved location, as the Season 1 Reloaded roadmap confirms its arrival date.

In the post, Treyarch confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s latest 6v6 map will be arriving on February 4. Somewhere around this time, the recently-confirmed League Play feature will be added to the game, meaning Express could not be arriving at a better time. As Treyarch pointed out, part of what made Express popular was how it “hosted many a jaw-dropping moment in competitive Call of Duty history.” As such, fans of both the Call of Duty League and League Play will likely be thrilled to see the map coming back.

For Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players wondering what maps they can play right now, the heavily leaked Sanatorium map has officially been added to the game. Taking place on a gorgeous Russian health retreat, everything from stylish architecture to beaches and bridges can be seen on the map. Exclusive to the Fireteam Dirty Bomb game mode, the large-scale map ensures that fans of larger fights also have something to look forward to in the mid-season update.

With multiplayer fans having access to another exciting remake in a few weeks’ time, things are looking up for the latest Call of Duty title. Seeing as Call of Duty Zombies players also are also getting the new Firebase Z map on February 4, the date will surely be a special one for the game’s community.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
