Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans are getting a lot of content soon, and there's been a steady stream of leaks and teasers that are sure to whet any fan's appetite. A recent announcement from Activision reveals that the content available at launch isn't all players will be getting; DLC will be free to play.

Free DLC in upcoming games is an exciting trend that fans appreciate, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be no different than games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Control: Ultimate Edition in that regard. Free DLC is a great way to ensure that the game doesn't get stale, and even players with shallower pockets will have access to exciting new content and events. Activision is promising a "steady stream of post-launch content" for fans.

The first of the confirmed upcoming DLC is that all Black Ops Cold War multiplayer post-launch maps will be free. This is great news for the entire community, since all players having access to the same multiplayer content means that the metagame will be more balanced. Everyone will be getting the same multiplayer experience in regards to what maps are available, so all players have to do to use post-launch maps is to allocate download space.

The Battle Pass system is returning to this Call of Duty game, although it's still unclear if it will include all the same features Modern Warfare fans would recognize. Those who buy Ultimate Edition of Black Ops Cold War will get one season's worth of a Battle Pass included with their purchase, and while the Battle Pass will likely still cost money, there may be ways for players to gift or trade this content or unlock it in-game. Given the other amount of free DLC, hopefully some Battle Pass content will also be available to the general community of players.

Not long after the leak that Warzone is getting Zombies, Activision is confirming the super-popular Zombies mode will be coming to Black Ops Cold War as well. And better yet, its post-launch experiences will also be free.

The brunt of free DLC focus appears to be in Black Ops Cold War multiplayer, which is great news seeing as MP can entertain players long after campaign content has been exhausted. There's still more information to be revealed about free MP modes, but for now, players can tune in to the huge influx of details about the upcoming game and keep an eye out for more opportunities for free stuff.
