Treyarch has just released a massive list of changes and additions that will be a part of Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The post also briefly mentions that a new map, as well as other content, will be added to Onslaught, a game mode that is currently exclusive to the PlayStation versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

In a match of Onslaught, a team of up to two players is tasked with defending an area within a range defined by the Dark Aether orb. The orb moves to a new location if a required number of zombies have been killed. This game mode is available exclusively to PlayStation users until November 1, almost a year after the Black Ops Cold War's original release. It should be noted that Onslaught is separate from the regular Zombies game mode which is available on all platforms.

Season 5 of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release on August 12, and brings more content to the Zombies Onslaught game mode. A new map called Echelon will be added, where players face off against waves of increasing difficulty enemies and try to collect all of the new pieces of intel. Later during the season, players can expect another limited-time mode to join Onslaught. The post also promises a new weapon Blueprint to be added, along with other surprises for the PlayStation audience of the game. Sony customers have been getting exclusives as a part of new Onslaught content ever since release, including a fan-favorite map during Season 4.

While players on Xbox and PC will have to wait for a few more months before they can dive into it, Season 5 also adds elements to the regular Zombies game mode that should give it more variety. It also means that Onslaught will be more feature rich when it launches on other platforms in November of this year.

Onslaught has been getting a lot of changes since launch, including a new Containment game mode, but it has largely failed to establish itself as a major part of the draw for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The main pillars of this franchise have resonated extremely well with the audience, making it difficult for a co-op wave defense game mode to stand out. The lengthy 1-year exclusivity period also does not help. That being said, it is another way for Sony to market the PlayStation edition as the complete or definitive version of the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
