The Black Ops Cold War Season 1 Battle Pass sticks to the 80's theme of the title and features popular hit songs from that decade. Popular 80's Hip-hop songs can be unlocked at tier 44, and 80's Rock songs can be unlocked at tier 72. One of the songs featured in the 80's Hits tracks is none of than Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." The iconic song debuted in 1987, but was revived as a meme in the 2000's. The song was used as a prank where misleading internet links would lead to the music video being played on a loop.

For internet users in the 2000's, it was almost impossible to avoid being tricked at least once. The act of being tricked into seeing the music video has been dubbed "Rickrolled." Astley even got in on the fun when he launched a surprise performance of the song at the 2008 Macy's Day Parade, effectively "Rickrolling" all viewers.

For players that recognize the song, getting to tier 94 to unlock the track can be a nostalgic treat and will undoubtedly be used to troll opponents. However, the other war tracks are unlocked at earlier tiers and may be very recognizable to players. The 80's Rock war tracks features the song "Take On Me" by A-ha, which has been engrained in popular culture, most recently played in The Last Of Us 2 when Ellie plays an acoustic cover of the song.

The 80's Hip-hop tracks feature Run DMC's "It's Tricky," which has been used in many video games including the 2001 snowboarding title SSX, WWE 2K16, and Forza Horizon 3. Each set of war tracks features iconic songs, but players will have to grind to tier 94 to unlock the ability to "Rick Roll" their opponents.
