Since Zombies was first introduced to Call of Duty with Call of Duty: World at War, the mystery box has been a consistent part of the experience. Longtime fans of the franchise will be happy to learn that the mystery box is returning in the various Zombies modes in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but it will be new and improved.

As recently revealed by Treyarch, the mystery box in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will let players decline a weapon they get in it and offer it to their teammates. In the past, if a player didn't want a weapon or gadget from the mystery box, they just had to wait for it to disappear, and then someone else could spend the points to try to get something else from the box.

This change to the mystery box in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies seems beneficial for a couple of reasons. For one, it will make it so players can ensure that their partners are better-equipped in case they keep getting bad weapons from the box, and for two, it should help speed up the game a bit. As it stands, a great deal of time can be wasted in Zombies while players just keep hitting the box repeatedly, especially since they have to wait for whatever is being offered to disappear before they can hit it again.

Since it seems to only benefit players, it sounds like this particular change to the mystery box in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Zombies will be well-received by the community. However, it may not be the only new thing the mystery box will have in this year's entry. It's been suggested that there will be some other new "wrinkles" with the mystery box in Black Ops 4, but it looks like fans will have to wait to learn more.

Luckily for anyone looking for more Black Ops 4 news, there are some big events between now and launch where Activision may reveal more information. For example, it's possible that Activision will feature Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 at Gamescom in August, and the upcoming multiplayer and Blackout betas could be accompanied by some Zombies news as well.

Alternatively, Activision may opt to keep any additional Zombies details secret until the game launches in a few months.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches on October 12 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
