As most Call of Duty fans are likely aware at this point, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to eschew a solo campaign in favor of focusing on its multiplayer and Zombies modes, with the latter receiving three different maps in total. No doubt, this move to provide Zombies fans with so much content this time around has been spurred by the fact that it's one of the series' most popular modes. With this being the case, Activision and Treyarch have decided to provide a brief history of Zombies in the series with a new video.

As seen below in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's latest video, Activision and Treyarch go over 10 years of Zombies in the first-person shooter franchise, covering its very first appearance in the series back in 2008's World at War all the way up to now. Throughout this assessment of the mode's history, Treyarch’s senior executive producer for Zombies, Jason Blundell, goes so far as to state that the lessons learned from each version has led to the Zombies modes for Black Ops 4 having "some of the most innovative and challenging maps [the developer] has ever created".

As previously mentioned, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be giving players three separate Zombies experiences that take place across the span of history. "IX" will be set in an ancient gladiatorial arena, "Voyage of Despair" takes place aboard the Titanic, and "Blood of the Dead" occurs on Alcatraz Island in the 1940s. The former two experiences offer new stories and environs for the series, but it's worth noting that the lattermost Zombies map is a re-imagined version of "Mob of the Dead" from Black Ops 2, with expanded and fresh playable areas.

With Treyarch including so many Zombies maps, it will be interesting to see which one becomes the steady favorite for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 fans, and if each will be unique enough to sustain player interest in all of them until the developer inevitably releases post-launch DLC. Fortunately enough, we won't have to wait too much longer to find out, as the next entry in the long-running first-person shooter franchise is set to drop later this week.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is scheduled to launch on October 12, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
