The Call of Duty series' Zombies mode stands as one of the most popular and iconic aspects of the series, ever since 2008'sWorld at War. It's featured in nearly every entry since then, with developer Treyarch obviously continuing the trend with the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. But for this title, the studio has decided to do something a little different regarding the Easter eggs and other secrets that can be found in the mode.

In a post on the official Call of Duty Zombies Reddit page, Treyarch acknowledged how important it is for players to naturally discover in-game secrets on their own or with others rather than getting spoiled. So, since some players will have access to the game sooner than others, Treyarch will essentially be locking the Easter eggs in all three Zombie modes –"IX," "Voyage of Despair" and "Blood of the Dead"–until the day of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's official release at 10AM Pacific Time. The Reddit post goes on to mention that this will also apply to something else titled as "Classified," maybe implying an extra fourth mode that will be coming soon?

In addition, Treyarch has promised that this iteration of the mode will be the biggest yet–it already has more content on Day One than any previous game they've done–with even more content to come post-launch, including new features and special events. The post ends with "Oh, and we’re cooking up something extra special for you… Ain’t that swell?," further teasing players. This already follows a tease from yesterday that the classic Nuketown map will be making a return as well, albeit slightly different to its previous iterations.

Treyarch seems dedicated to giving players as much content as possible, but it remains to be seen whether this will offset some of the criticisms Black Ops 4 has already received. It was revealed only a few days ago that the game requires a massive 50GB Day One patch, which could take a few hours to download and prevent players from accessing the online multiplayer.

Considering the complete absence of any single-player content like a campaign mode, this means players won't have anything else to do in the game until the update completes. Time will tell whether this will have any negative effects on the game's launch.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 launches on October 12, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
