Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will be released on later this year and, as developer Treyarch confirmed during the game's recent reveal event, it will have a focus on multiplayer. The classic Call of Duty multiplayer experience will be included, along with the Zombies mode and battle royale mode, Blackout. The game looks wildly entertaining and it's something that many fans would like to experience on the go.

Unfortunately for fans hoping for a portable version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 that will allow them to take part in action-packed battles when they're out and about, Treyarch has no plans to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch. Twinfinite asked Treyarch about a Switch port of Black Ops 4 during the reveal event, to which senior producer Yale Miller was quick to state that "no there is not [a Switch port of the game]." While other developers' responses regarding Switch ports of their games have left a little room for speculation, Miller's dismissal seems pretty matter of fact.

On the one hand, the confirmation that a Switch version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is not being considered by Treyarch will be hugely disappointing to players on the console. Publisher Activision has already supported the console in a big way, with titles such as Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy headed to the console this summer.

Another major Activision release, the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy, is also rumored to be headed to the Nintendo Switch though only PS4 and Xbox One versions have been announced so far. With this in mind, many had thought it possible that Activision, wanting to keep supporting the Switch, would release yet another game from a huge franchise on the system.

But on the other hand, Treyarch may have dashed out the possibility of a Nintendo Switch version of the game due to technical limitations. While the company has yet to decide how many players the Blackout mode will include, the content included in the game's traditional multiplayer and the large, narrative levels of Zombies may be too much for the little console to handle.

And it's not just power; memory limitations with the game's cartridges may also make it difficult or very expensive to release the game on the Switch in full. Unfortunately for Switch fans, for Treyarch and Activision, the investment required to get the game on the console may outweigh any possible returns.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to release on October 12, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
