Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 opted out of a campaign, a first for the franchise. While multiplayer modes have been the major draw, cutting the campaign was still a contentious move, causing a small uproar among fans. And while the game instead included Blackout, the precursor to Warzone's battle royale gameplay, fans hoped that Black Ops 4 might add a campaign post-launch, though that never happened.

However, footage has leaked online showing cut Black Ops 4 campaign footage, though its in a rough state. Many characters are lacking detailed models, though environments seem pretty polished. The player is tasked with finding a CEO as a crowd of civilians avoids the crossfire. In a way, it feels similar to the Piccadilly mission from Modern Warfarewhere players fight in a crowded hub full of shops.

Strangely enough, Black Ops 4's campaign was never a part of the plan, or at least, that's what was said prior to launch. Seeing the campaign in action contradicts that, though even the brief clip of leaked gameplay is full of Call of Duty tropes, so its possible not a lot of progress was made before ultimately deciding to scrap it, or it was deemed too uninteresting.

This year's Call of Duty is rumored to be Black Ops Cold Wara long title, but also a return to Vietnam, which many players have wanted. It still hasn't been confirmed, but multiple leaks have lined up, making it seem likely. Either way, a Call of Duty 2020 reveal can't be that far off. The games are typically revealed around this time of year with a release in October or November. The pandemic might have thrown a wrench in those plans, though.

There have been rumors that Call of Duty 2020 has had a troubled development, leading to concerns among fans. Modern Warfare has been an incredibly popular game, in large part thanks to Warzone, which does increase the stakes for Treyarch to a degree. Of course, games are now regularly updated post-launch, and it is possible that a rocky launch could be corrected after the game's debut, though that all remains to be seen.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
