About a week ago, Activision and Treyarch confirmed the player count for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's battle royale mode dubbed Blackout would be 80 at the outset of the private beta for the mode, but suggested that the figure could be tweaked. As it so happens, the maximum number for players in Blackout matches has increased somewhat since the beta went live, as today's hotfix has boosted the mode's player cap from 80 to 88.

In addition to the larger player count for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Blackout mode, Treyarch's Post-Day 1 Update for the first-person shooter's private beta has also brought about several other changes and features as well. For instance, the patch also brings about some bug fixes, the ability to pick up items much faster than before, a two minute timer on the sensor dart, and a slight tweak for the Quick Equip UI that causes the menu to close after five seconds of not being used.

With Activision and Treyarch enlarging the player count for Blackout in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 just a day after the beta has begun, there's a good chance that the number could grow to become even bigger as the test presses on. After all, Fortnite, which is arguably the most popular battle royale title on the market, hosts up to 100 players in each match, so the publisher and developer may keep increasing Blackout's player count throughout the beta as a test to find out if the cap fits the scale of the new Black Ops 4 mode.

All things considered, maybe the companies will even goose the number beyond 100 at a certain point in the beta just to see how much Black Ops 4's servers can handle. Of course, it's important to point out that this is merely conjecture on our behalf, but it isn't outside the realm of possibility. In fact, Treyarch's studio design director David Vonderhaar once suggested that the cap of 100 is just an arbitrary number, and Black Ops 4 might even make it bigger with Blackout.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is slated to release on October 12, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
