The Call of Duty game that turned the franchise into the massive blockbuster phenomenon that it is today was 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. The latest game in the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, is a reboot of the Modern Warfare sub-series, and as a result features a number of characters and references to the original game. This includes some easter eggs that are hidden rather well, like one that serves as a nod to the famous "All Ghillied Up" mission from Call of Duty 4.

If Modern Warfare players look closely at the Flesh Wound EBR-14 weapon in the game, they will find coordinates that lead to the Pripyat Amusement Park. For those who may not remember, the Pripyat Amusement Park was one of the primary locations in the "All Ghillied Up" mission, which remains one of the most popular and memorable Call of Duty campaign missions to this day.

While this is a rather subtle nod to Call of Duty 4, the game is represented in much more obvious ways in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as well. For example, the campaign makes reference to Call of Duty 4 protagonist John "Soap" MacTavish, and one of the main characters in the campaign is longtime Modern Warfare hero Captain Price.

Call of Duty 4 is represented in Modern Warfare's multiplayer mode as well, mainly through the addition of reimagined maps from that game. These reimagined maps include fan favorite Shipment, known for its extremely small scale, as well as Vacant, which is a more traditional Call of Duty multiplayer map.

While fan reception to these maps have been mostly positive, the Modern Warfare version of Shipment is not being quite as well-received as the original iteration of the map. This seems to be a combination of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's spawn system and slight tweaks to Shipment's layout that has allowed people to abuse those spawns. Infinity Ward recently introduced a Shipment 24/7 playlist that will feature 5v5 matches instead of 6v6, though whether or not that's enough to make Shipment more playable remains to be seen.

If some recent leaks are any indication, there should be even more Call of Duty 4 maps coming to Modern Warfare in the near future, so fans can expect the original game to be represented on an even larger scale. In the meantime, one has to wonder if there are more hidden easter eggs like this one waiting to be discovered in the base game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
