Activision has yet to officially reveal 2021's Call of Duty game, though it has confirmed some details about it. Recently, Activision confirmed that a new main series Call of Duty game will indeed release during the holiday 2021 season as expected, and that the next game in the long-running franchise is being developed by Sledgehammer Games, the studio behind Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: WW2.

Besides confirming Sledgehammer Games to be the studio for the new Call of Duty game, Activision also touched on the new CoD's relationship with Call of Duty: Warzone. Activision confirmed that Call of Duty 2021 will integrate with Call of Duty: Warzone, but stopped short of explaining exactly how significant the integration will be. There have been rumors that Call of Duty 2021's Warzone integration will not be as dramatic as it was with Black Ops Cold War, but that remains to be seen.

Call of Duty: Warzone was integrated with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War late last year, about a month after Black Ops Cold War's launch. The integration saw many Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapons added to Warzone, which resulted in some backlash from the community. The connection between the two games deepened a few months after the initial integration, when Call of Duty: Warzone's Verdansk battle royale map was changed to match Black Ops Cold War's 1980s setting.

The Call of Duty: Warzone Nuke event saw the Verdansk map go back in time to 1984, which is when Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes place. Considering this, it's possible that something similar will happen to make Call of Duty: Warzone match more closely with 2021's Call of Duty game. The new Call of Duty game has not revealed its setting, but reputable leakers have given fans an idea of what to expect.

If the leaks are to be believed, the 2021 Call of Duty game is set during World War 2. If that's the case, then it wouldn't be surprising to see a World War 2 version of Verdansk, and in fact, that is something that has been hinted at by leakers. Alternatively, it's been suggested that Call of Duty: Warzone may get a new Rebirth Island-sized map based on World War 2 instead, but again, nothing concrete has been confirmed at the time of this writing.

If Call of Duty 2021 follows the same pattern as Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it's likely that the reveal won't come until late summer. Whenever Activision does decide to pull the curtain back on the game, it will be interesting to see which of the Call of Duty 2021 leaks were accurate and which ones were not.

Call of Duty 2021 is in development for unspecified platforms.
