Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 just began, introducing a ton of new content — including secret changes not mentioned in the Season 5 patch notes. Fans of Activision's first-person shooter franchise are still waiting to hear about the upcoming Call of Duty 2020, rumored to be Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and it seems more information may finally be coming early next week.

Activision sent out a mysterious crate to its Call of Duty partners today, including the news site Charlie Intel, that cannot be opened until Monday, August 10 at 12:00 p.m. ET. The box has a serial number printed on the top and a lock, but partners have to wait until the embargo period ends to receive the lock's code via a text message from Activision.

While there is no official confirmation that this crate is related to the new game being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Charlie Intel expects that it will be. Activision said Call of Duty 2020 could be revealed through a Warzone event during the conference call for its second-quarter financial report Tuesday, which also confirmed the next Call of Duty is planned to release this year, and that more info would be coming "fairly soon."

Last month, a leaked Doritos promotion revealed Call of Duty 2020's title and logo, as well as its release window in October. There has yet to be official confirmation regarding this leak, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. However, prior leaks and ongoing discussions from Activision regarding its upcoming game suggest players can expect a Cold War-themed Call of Duty by the end of the year that strongly integrates with the battle royale title Warzone.

That integration may have already begun, as players believe they found a Black Ops Cold War teaser in Warzone's stadium. There is a computer hidden in the stadium that displays running vertical text styled like The Matrix, and the code appears to be based on Russian characters.

Interested fans will have to wait until Monday to find out if this mysterious crate sent out by Activision opens the floodgates for new information about the upcoming Call of Duty. In the meantime, Modern Warfare and Warzone Season 5 should give players plenty to keep themselves occupied, especially with PlayStation 4-exclusive content introduced into Modern Warfare.

Call of Duty 2020 is in development by Treyarch and Raven Software.
