When this year's Call of Duty game is released, it will offer fans of the first person shooter series "game-changing" features, says series publisher Activision. The statement from Activision comes not long after a developer behind the game teased that Call of Duty 2019 is more ambitious than fans expect.

During its Q1 2019 quarterly financial report, Activision chief operating officer Collister Johnson teased that the 2019 Call of Duty game will offer "game-changing experiences." These game-changing features will be found at launch and in the game's post-launch content too. Johnson did not provide any more details about what these gameplay features may be or what fans can expect from the game but did say that Call of Duty 2019 is Activision's biggest release this year.

Johnson also spoke about Infinity Ward, the developer behind Call of Duty 2019, will keep players playing for longer. "We need to do even more to maintain the breadth of our Call of Duty player base beyond the launch quarters," said Johnson. Johnson also said that the development team is "hard at work on that for this fall’s big content release."

It's unclear just how the Call of Duty development team will keep players interested for longer, as some major fan favorite game modes are rumored to have been dropped. Two months ago, there were rumors that Infinity Ward has chosen to drop the Blackout battle royale game mode to return the series to its roots.

Another rumor from a month ago also suggested that Call of Duty 2019 wouldn't feature the Zombies game mode. Unlike Blackout, which has divided the Call of Duty fanbase on opinion, Zombies has been a popular mode for some time. Dropping Zombies could be a controversial move and it could give players a reason not to keep playing the game and to put it down after they are bored of normal multiplayer gameplay.

There is so much speculation about the next Call of Duty game and what it will offer but Activision and Infinity Ward will be making an official announcement soon. During the quarterly financial call, Activision also confirmed that Call of Duty 2019 will be announced before the end of June. This could mean that Activision will make an announcement within the next few weeks, potentially at E3 2019. Then, fans will get a good look at the new Call of Duty and its potentially game-changing gameplay features.

Call of Duty 2019 is in development for unspecified platforms.
