Over the past month, leakers have been teasing various aspects of the Call of Duty: Warzone nuke event. With each passing week, more evidence has appeared that hints at its existence, and now Raven Software has seemingly confirmed the event’s arrival within Call of Duty: Warzone.

For those unfamiliar with the nuke event in Call of Duty: Warzone, it will supposedly serve as a direct result of the growing Zombies outbreak inside Verdansk. As shown by the Zombies spreading to the Gulag, players will supposedly see the undead hordes take over a majority of Verdansk. In a last-ditch effort to contain the pandemic, a nuke will be dropped on the country, completely obliterating the map the players currently know.

While it remains to be seen if Verdansk will truly disappear forever, the nuke does seem to be on the way. If players head to the hut outside the TV Station area, best known for serving as one of many bunker locations, they can find a map of Verdansk. When aiming at the map for several seconds, players will see an interesting easter egg begin to play out in front of them — and it likely shocked Redditor Mundoschristmas when they first stumbled upon it.

Once triggered, several explosions begin to appear directly on the map. The process lasts for well over 30 seconds, with the map of Verdansk quickly becoming blackened from all the napalm. Once the explosions stop, poison gas spreads throughout the room, though it has no effect on the player inside. Likely meant to resemble the radiation that will be seen in Verdansk after the nuke goes off, this small easter egg is as exciting as it gets for believers in the nuke event. With some Call of Duty: Warzone players growing tired of waiting for the event to begin, this well-hidden teaser is a good sign that it will be happening sooner rather than later.

Though it has seemed increasingly likely that the nuke event will come, there has been no official confirmation on the part of Raven Software. This sneaky teaser could be viewed as the first nod toward the event being a reality, however. As such, players can expect the Plague game mode to be added to the game around April 22, as leakers believe this is the nuke event’s start date. The mode will see players fighting packs of AI-controlled Zombies that are scattered around hotspots in Verdansk, eventually exfiltrating from the area before the bomb blows the map to smithereens.

With the nuke event now looking more likely than ever before, April is shaping up to be an interesting month for Call of Duty: Warzone. Before long, players really may be dropping into some 250 player lobbies as they fight through the Ural Mountains.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
