The latest Activision blog brings exciting news to Call of Duty: Warzone players, as an entirely new mode has been conceived and releases at some point during Season 5 Reloaded which starts tonight at 11 PM PT. This new mode, called Kingslayer, takes place in Verdansk like a standard battle royale game but has some interesting rules that are sure to make gameplay feel more fast paced and rewarding.

Call of Duty: Warzone's Season 5 Reloaded update releases today, and with it comes a host of new content including game modes, weapons, trials, and more. One of the additions is the new Kingslayer game mode, available during Season 5 Reloaded, though exactly when remains unclear.

Though there are several different battle royale game modes within Warzone and other battle royale games, straying too far from the basic formula of that genre is a risky move. Kingslayer seems to be Activision's answer to that, as it maintains the core ideas of what makes a battle royale while expanding with new concept to spice up the game play.

Essentially, King Slayer is a team deathmatch put under a battle royale lens with some interesting additions, and is similar to Rumble in some ways. The circle will still play a vital role in combat and movement throughout Verdansk, but instead of closing in on players and consistently tightening the space in which players are to engage, it will move around the map. This should force players to remain in the same areas with each other, and depending on the size of the circle, could have an effect where Warzone's many different locales feel somewhat like isolated multiplayer maps.

What really makes King Slayer unique though is its king mechanic. At any given point throughout the game, the top five teams' top players will be marked as kings, and taking one of these players out will result in extra points and a free kill streak. This mechanic is interesting as it incentivizes going after the top scoring players, but doing so may end up putting a target on one's own back as well. What's more, the kings are shown on the Tac-map, so there's no hiding while holding that title.

All together, Activision hopes that this will create an experience that is fast paced and varied throughout the course of the game. Players may find themselves experiencing Verdansk in ways they never did before as the new rules push them to be bolder and start more confrontations. It will be interesting to see how players receive this new game mode.
