Although cross-play has been a universally requested feature for almost every multiplayer game and console for quite some time now, players of Call of Duty: Warzone are actually looking for a way to disable the coveted feature. Though being able to play with friends across systems is nice, the PC version is much easier to cheat on.

For those players that just want to know how to turn off cross-play in Call of Duty: Warzone, it is actually rather simple. Open the options menu, navigate to the account tab, and it should be the first option on that tab under the heading of Online. Setting this option to "Disable" will mean the player will only encounter others on their console.

This of course means that not only will the player not encounter PC users, but PS4 users won't be able to play with Xbox One users and vice versa. Thankfully, the setting can always easily be switched on and off from this menu.

Call of Duty: Warzone disable cross-play

The circumstances regarding the increased number of players wanting to disable cross-play are rather unfortunate, as hackers are able to modify the game experience on computer far easier than they can on a console like the PS4 or Xbox One. Especially given that cross-play is intended to be a rather innocent feature that allows players to connect with each other regardless of what system they play on, this sort of abuse is upsetting. It is a good thing that Infinity Ward had the foresight to allow this feature to be disabled in the first place.

That said, the main reason for making cross-play optional rather than just a standard, included feature probably had something to do with the unfair advantage PC players have. Though PlayStations and Xboxes have their differences, they both use controllers and function more or less in the same way. PC users can have vastly more powerful rigs and have the added benefit of increased control when aiming with a mouse, so it is understandable that some players wouldn't want to go up against PC users. The cheaters running rampant on the platform only further the need for a togglable cross-play option.

Hopefully Infinity Ward finds a better way to catch and punish cheaters in their game soon so that player don't feel driven to disable this feature to avoid them. Recently, a video game hacker suggested ways to detect ban cheaters, so maybe that will be the key to lowering the amount of cheaters in the game.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
