Call of Duty: Warzone fans that are tired of playing against Dead Silence users are in luck, as Raven Software is finally planning to address the perk. Based on the developer’s comments, gamers could soon be looking at a whole new perk meta for Call of Duty: Warzone.

Currently, the Dead Silence perk does too much inside of Call of Duty: Warzone. Not only can players sprint fast while using the perk, but their footsteps are entirely concealed. This allows gamers to run up on opponents without making any noise, making it impossible to counter them. Frustratingly, Dead Silence also spawns frequently, meaning that most players can obscure their footsteps before they go into any fight. This creates a meta where players are not rewarded for listening and are almost required to use Dead Silence.

Fortunately, it seems like those looking for change are in luck. In a special section of the latest patch notes, Raven Software tells Call of Duty: Warzone fans that it is looking into “counterplay” options for Dead Silence that will make the perk more “fair.” While the studio warns fans that it cannot promise any changes yet, it does add that more info will be shared when a fix has been ironed out. With players tired of the same perk meta, as it has lasted almost a year, this news should be reassuring.

As for how Raven Software is planning to fix Dead Silence, there are a few options on the table. One could see a new field upgrade added to Call of Duty: Warzone. An enhanced hearing ability of some kind could serve as a direct counter to Dead Silence, with gamers able to hear people using the perk if they activate theirs at the same time. However, the downside to a field upgrade like this is that it has some major limitations. It is impossible to know when someone that has Dead Silence is in the area, meaning that players could find themselves using the perk when they do not need to.

The other option has been used in the past with Stopping Power. Previously, Call of Duty: Warzone players had called out this perk for being too overpowered and too common. Rather than nerfing it, Raven decreased its spawn rate, ensuring that it is a much rare drop. The same thing could happen with Dead Silence, as Raven may decide to nerf the field upgrade by having it spawn less. Regardless, both these ideas are just speculation, as the developer still seems unsure of how it will change the Call of Duty: Warzone perk.

Outside of this promising comment, the update nerfed the overpowered MG 82. While this was a welcome change, fans will likely be even more excited when the new perk meta finally arrives.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
