Call of Duty fans are set to see one of the biggest midseason events in franchise history, as action heroes from 1980s films will be leaving their mark on all the active games. With several Call of Duty titles participating in the event, fans can enjoy the festivities in whichever game they enjoy later this week.

The 80s Action Heroes event kicks off on May 20, with the leading men of Die Hard and Rambo becoming purchasable bundles inside the store. Special playlists will be added to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, with Rambo’s Gun Game and Die Hardpoint serving as some fun nods to the iconic films. In Call of Duty: Warzone, locations from both movies will appear inside of Verdansk 84, with areas redesigned to match settings from the movies. Nakatomi Plaza can be found in the Downtown area, for example, with Survival Camps scattered throughout the map.

While Call of Duty fans may be disappointed with the Rambo and Die Hard Skins, the trailer does its best to show off the event’s content. Featuring an intentionally cheesy voiceover and a retro logo, the vibe of the footage is spot-on. The interior of Nakatomi Plaza serves as a major focus of the trailer, with players battling it out on several floors of the building. Looking vastly different from the usual skyscrapers of Verdansk, some effort went into bringing this building to life, with working elevators shown off as well. From there, the footage turns to focusing on the action heroes themselves.

While gamers can not see the John McClane skin in action during the trailer, they get a good look at a finishing move inspired by the films. Woods can be seen getting held at gunpoint before removing a pistol taped to his back, getting a sneaky kill on his opponent. Outside of the execution serving as a great homage to Die Hard, players get plenty of looks at John Rambo. Several specially-made action shots of the hero suiting up are included as well as clips from the game, with Rambo seen in the plane before parachuting into Verdansk.

A brief shot of Rambo stealthily killing an enemy is seen, while a flare is also activated at one point in the trailer. Possibly part of a special mission or easter egg, it will be interesting to see what purpose the flare serves. From there, several action shots are shown, with players fighting in vehicles and Rambo running from an explosion. He is also seen wielding Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Death Machine as the footage comes to an end, with the logo appearing on-screen in the closing seconds.

With 80s-themed Call of Duty Mobile content also coming, Activision is going all out on the event. For any Call of Duty players that are interested, Thursday is thankfully right around the corner.
