People who play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare regularly have very different complaints about the game than those who play it infrequently. While Modern Warfare players want Shipment 24/7 to return, people who view the game from outside complain about aesthetics.

These are complaints that have become far less valid as the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series has continued to grow. More and more, players have been given new ways to put their stamp on their playstyle. In Modern Warfare, this has been extended to putting a stamp on kills with kill effects: a customization option added to a weapon that adds special effects to its kills.

Cryo dismemberment is the latest of these kill effects, and came to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in a recent update. Specifically, the kill effect comes equipped to the three weapons present in Modern Warfare's new Wendigo Bundle, the Psychosis, the Evil Manifest, and the Crevasse. Each of these are weapon blueprints that bear a cold theme, complete with the cryo dismemberment effect already added. As of the writing of this article, the only way to get the effect is from these legendary blueprints, and only for these weapons.

The guns for the blueprints — not the knife — are the FN Scar 17 and the Striker 45. The Scar is already considered one of the best assault rifles in Modern Warfare, so the cryo dismemberment can be considered the icing on the cake. The effect freezes the limbs of enemies killed with the weapon, then snaps them off, leaving the victim literally broken by the cold.

The effect is likely to become quite popular, so players should prepare to see frozen limbs sliding across the map quite regularly. As mentioned above, the FN Scar 17 is still one of the top tier weapons in Modern Warfare's 4th season, and while not in the same camp, the Striker 45 is nothing to scoff at. While it might be strange that this ice effect has dropped at the start of summer, it's still very cool.

Of course, the Scar's lower ammo count compared to some of its contemporaries might make the effect rarer than payers would like, which won't be helped by an ammo bug in Modern Warfare that has not yet been solved. There are currently no options for seeing the effect on anything other than the three weapons above, which is sure to annoy players who want the effect but can't use their favorite weapon with it. Hopefully in the future players will be able to transfer it to other weapons, like rocket launchers. The visuals would certainly be interesting.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
