Turns out increased matchmaking times isn’t the only new problem in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone. Players have also discovered another glitch that has popped up this week, and it’s affecting another crucial part of the games: voice chat.

No one needs to be reminded how important communication is in fast-paced team-focused games like these two, and while more and more titles adopt ways for players to coordinate non-verbally (case in point, Warzone’s ping system), the ability to just talk to one another remains the most effective way for teams to work together towards coming out on top. That’s why it’s so problematic that players are now struggling to do so.

A report from Charlie Intel states that players have been experiencing trouble with voice chat over the last few days since Modern Warfare and Warzone’s hefty April 28 update, with the feature no longer working as intended and leaving players unable to communicate with their friends in cross-play lobbies.

Most have assumed that this is being caused by a bug in the games’ code that was caused by the changes brought on by the update, and it turns out that they’re right. Infinity Ward has confirmed that an issue with the update is affecting voice chat in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone, as it has updated its Trello board to state that it is both aware of the problem and looking into a solution.

Unfortunately, the developer didn’t provide any ETA for said solution, so players are likely going to have to sit tight and wait a bit before they receive any update. It could be a while before it comes, but considering the seriousness of the problems the update has introduced, it’s doubtful Infinity Ward will take its time addressing them.

That’s the frustrating thing about updates. Players want them to add new content and fix current problems, and they usually do, but constantly changing up a game’s code like that always brings the risk of something being thrown off by an unforeseen quirk in how the new code tries to mesh with the old, as this week’s update proves.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone are available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
