Nearly three months post-launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remains plagued with all sorts of issues. It seems that for every bug Infinity Ward addresses, a new bug pops up to frustrate players. Despite this, the developer is doing what it can to fix things up, and this weekend it offered fans a quick update on one of the changes it’s preparing to make.

Of all the issues that have shown up, which have affected nearly everything from weapons to matchmaking to the spawn system, one of the more persistent problems has affected Modern Warfare’s killfeed, the part of the HUD that summarizes when, how, and by whom players are killed. For the last couple of months, players have noticed that kills can randomly disappear from the feed, leaving them with an incomplete picture of which team is dominating in a given moment.

Since last month, Infinity Ward has been in the process of fixing Modern Warfare’s killfeed. Back then, Co-Design Director of Multiplayer Joe Cecot confirmed that it had patched out much of the technical clutter affecting the feed, but added that the rest of the fixes would require a more extensive and time-consuming code change, hence why it hasn’t arrived yet. As for when it will arrive, Cecot offered a hint this weekend, revealing that Modern Warfare’s next big update has been submitted for first-party approval. While he couldn’t reveal when exactly it will go live, this suggests the update, and the killfeed code fix, will happen soon.

Meanwhile, another Infinity Ward developer, Multiplayer Designer David Mickner, teased another change that players have been asking for regarding the killfeed: an extra row. Currently, the feed only shows up to five kills in a row at any one time, but many players feel that a sixth row would keep up more with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's hectic gameplay. Like Cecot, Mickner didn’t say exactly when it’s going to happen, but he did confirm that “6th row will be coming.”

This is good news all around for those awaiting these changes, but not everyone is happy about it. With all of the problems Modern Warfare’s dealing with these days, there are those who feel that Infinity Ward taking time to fix the killfeed is keeping it away from addressing more pressing issues, or even adding things players have been asking for, like additional custom character slots or new 6v6 maps maps in Modern Warfare.

Killfeed aside, Infinity Ward still has plenty to take care of before it can get to stuff like that. Though a few of Modern Warfare’s bugs were fixed in an update this weekend, more fixes are planned for other issues, including Quick Play filter problems and unintended exploits. It would appear then that players may have to wait a while more before the game is in a strong enough state for Infinity Ward to focus on new content instead of new fixes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
