Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans have known for quite some time that the classic Call of Duty 4 maps Shipment and Vacant would be making their way to the game, but they didn't know exactly when. Now Activision and Infinity Ward have confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be adding both Shipment and Vacant in an update that will be rolled out for all platforms on December 18.

It should be noted that the Shipment map won't just be for standard multiplayer. Fans of the 2v2 Gunfight mode (the original version of which is also coming on December 18), can look forward to playing on Shipment as well. The addition of Shipment to Gunfight may even convince some people who aren't fans of the game mode to try it out, though there is some cause to be concerned.

In its blog post about the new maps, Activision refers to Shipment and Vacant as "reimagined" maps, which may make some members of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare community cautious. After all, the changes made to the recently-added Crash were widely criticized by fans online, as many felt that the changes made the map worse. Considering this, it's hard to fault anyone for being worried that similar changes could potentially make Shipment or Vacant less fun.

There's been some concern about Shipment being worse in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for awhile now. A supposedly leaked image of Shipment, that has now been corroborated by its appearance in the new Modern Warfare Season One trailer, showed new elements of verticality that weren't present in the original version of the map. We don't know yet if these potential changes result in a worse or better version of Shipment, but fans will find out once they get their hands on it on December 18.

In the meantime, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare December 18 update will add even more new content to the game. This includes Operator Nikto, new cosmetics, and the new game mode Cranked. It remains to be seen what all will be removed to make way for this new content, but more specific details should come with the patch notes.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
