Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has seen considerable success since its release last September, keeping fans pleased with a revamped story from the original Modern Warfare series and offering plenty of modes for online multiplayer. However, many players have been disappointed by the disappearance of some game modes from the multiplayer playlists, especially considering how prevalent some of the early marketing made these modes out to be.

One mode in particular that fans have recently expressed their disappointment in seeing get seemingly cut from the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is Realism Mode. Since last November, before the start of Season 1, Realism Mode has been missing, and it still doesn't look like it will be returning in this or future seasons either.

For those unfamiliar with the Realism Mode, it plays similar to Hardcore, except with an even bigger emphasis on immersion. One of the biggest changes to the Realism Mode from regular Modern Warfare playlists is the fact that headshots are an instant kill, regardless of weapon. Other balances to gun damage made for fairly huge differences between Realism and the core gameplay, but the general idea was that everything was supposedly more grounded and less "video gamey," offering players a chance to really test their skills.

One redditor in particular has recently posted to vent their frustrations with the loss of this game mode and its focus on skill and immersion over the current playlist that includes a never ending cycle of repeating matches on the Shipment map. As both Modern Warfare and Warzone hit record high player counts, some players like redditor NightRangerMan_ only hope that one slot in the list of available playlists can be set aside for a chance to return to their favorite game mode. For competitive players especially, Realism is often held up as one of the best game modes in previous multiplayer playlists, so to see it go missing for so long has been quite disappointing.

It's hard to say exactly why Infinity Ward would choose to remove the Realism mode altogether from Modern Warfare, but the culprit is more than likely the mode's popularity or lack thereof. While it might have a dedicated fan base, if too few players logged in to play the mode at any given time, that could mean longer wait times in matchmaking.

Some believe that the mode suffers because it doesn't favor the high kill counts and fast pace of an average Modern Warfare match. Since a lot of the focus in last year's game has been put on the Season Pass and unlockables, a lot of players are seeking out the quickest way to rack up points and XP.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
