Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may still be a couple months away from release, but fans on PlayStation 4 got an early taste of the game thanks to the 2v2 Gunfight Alpha which featured a brand new game mode and a few maps for players to explore. One eagle-eyed player happened to notice an easter egg dedicated to Stephen King's IT hidden among one of the maps in the Alpha.

Just behind spawn on the map, there was a sewer grate, and when inspecting the grate, the iconic red balloon emerged from the darkness. Right now the balloon does not seem to do anything, and it may appear in different spots, so fans will have to keep their eyes out for more of these cool references.

Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a bit to try to find more of these easter eggs as the 2v2 Alpha is officially over. However, those interested in testing out Call of Duty: Modern Warfare early won't have too much longer to wait. The Beta for Modern Warfare arrives in September, and includes the 2v2 Gunfight game mode and much more.

For PlayStation users, the early access to the Beta begins September 12, while the other platforms will have to wait until September 19 to join in on the fun. The Beta will feature cross-play so fans will get to see how Modern Warfare will handle players from all three major platforms firsthand.

While the specific details about the Beta are still under wraps at Infinity Ward, they have posted several trailers highlighting new maps and game modes coming to the game this fall. Classic game modes are making a triumphant return to Modern Warfare, like Team Deathmatch and Domination, as well as Headquarters and even some new modes. Gun Fight is a new addition to the series, as well as the brand-new Cyber Attack mode. Cyber Attack is similar to Search and Destroy, but the player carrying the EMP cannot use their gun, meaning teammates will have to work hard to defend their vulnerable bomb carrier.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is shaping up to be quite a shake-up for the Call of Duty franchise. While it is launching at a very controversial time, fans are already ecstatic to get their hands on it. Hopefully, Modern Warfare is exactly what the series needs to bring new and old fans back to the long-standing series.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
