Even in the new year Call of Duty: Modern Warfare continues to go strong, with speculation suggesting there might be five more seasons in development coinciding with whatever title will come from Infinity Ward in 2020. However, just as strong is the game's fanbase looking to hold developers accountable for promised updates. One player received a response from Co-Design Director of Multiplayer Joe Cecot on Twitter Sunday, who said they will be starting to push a "big update" through this week.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the latest in a long-running series of primarily multiplayer first-person-shooter games that was released in August 2019.

The game received an amicable critical reception at launch, but has suffered from a number of high profile bugs and glitches — such as players being able to see through walls. One of the more consistently cited issues involves how the "killfeed" is displayed, being a part of the Heads-up Display (HUD) that shows when and how players are killed throughout a match.

On January 5, Infinity Ward's Cecot lauded a 2v2 gunfight map concept made by 343 Industries' Campaign Level Designer Kolbe Payne on Twitter. In response, a Modern Warfare player going by RIIG asked whether fixes to the game's killfeed (which Cecot previously discussed in a Twitter exchange on December 23) would be coming soon now that the holiday season is over.

Cecot told RIIG that their next big update should have "all the fixes," but had no concrete date as to when players should expect to see it.

Though the vague release window for this supposed "big update" is disappointing (especially for impatient players looking to see their game fixed), the communication happening at all is greatly appreciated. Recently Infinity Ward Art Director Joel Emslie posted on the r/modernwarfare subreddit that he would like to find better ways to keep their community informed about the game, and Cecot interacting with players on social media seems like a good way to make progress on that front.

That sentiment hasn't stopped the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare community from bristling, however. Since Cecot's comment was posted to the subreddit earlier today by Reddit user _Ghost100, the top comment by t3450 suggests an overwhelming sense of skepticism: "Kinda believing the update will fix nothing, and make the game worse at this point."

Players are waiting for a number of changes to the game, such as the addition of more class loadouts, on top of fixes to things like the killfeed. At this point, time will tell whether Infinity Ward's "big update" will be a crowd-pleaser or feed on that community skepticism.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
