The dates for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare open beta are here. The beta will take place in mid-to-late September, and will feature cross-play between all platforms.

This morning, Infinity Ward released a new trailer for the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The trailer focused on multiplayer gameplay and detailed a few of the new modes and features. The reveal also included the announcement of the open beta, which will be players’ first chance to get their hands on the game before it releases on October 25th.

Here are the dates for the beta, followed by a breakdown of how to participate in each version.

PlayStation 4 Exclusive Beta:

  • September 12 -13 (Early Access, Playstation 4 only)
  • September 14 – 16 (Open Beta, Playstation 4 only)

Beta featuring Cross-Platform play:

  • September 19 – 20 (Early Access, PC and Xbox One; Open Beta, PlayStation 4)
  • September 21 – 23 (Open Beta, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One)

That’s a lot of different dates, so here is what that means for players. The first round of the beta will be Playstation 4 exclusive (the game has a few exclusivity deals with Sony) and will be split into two parts. The early access beta will be on September 12 - 13th. This beta is exclusively for fans who pre-ordered the game - they get to jump in a little sooner than everyone else. Following this will be the PS4 open beta from September 14-16th, where all PS4 owners will have the opportunity to give the game a try.

The following weekend, everyone else will get a chance to jump in together, as Modern Warfare will feature cross-play, a first for a Call of Duty game. Again, the cross-play beta will start with early access, which will only be available to folks who preordered the game on the platform of their choice. That will run September 19 - 20th. Then, finally, everyone will get a chance to jump in together to see how the cross-play will work on a large scale. That will run September 21 - 23rd for everyone with a device that can play it.

From the looks of it, there will be plenty of opportunities to jump in and give the new game a try. However, if players miss the beta, the Call of Duty teams have a history of extending the dates, so there is a chance fans will have another opportunity to try out the game before release.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on October 25 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
