Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Royale Mode Leaked

Modern warfare piccadilly 2nd level

Infinity Ward has stated that it wants to keep Call of Duty: Modern Warfare grounded and realistic; therefore, things such as a battle royal game mode weren’t likely to happen. Despite this, there have been numerous hints that a battle royal mode would be making its way over to the game even before its initial launch. And now even more evidence has surfaced to go along with pile.

Said evidence appeared in a recent datamine done by That1MiningGuy, whose excavated some other interesting Call of Duty leaks in the past. This time around, the files he dug up have the “BR” abbreviation in the name. In this case, “BR” likely stands for battle royal; the same way “MP” would stand for “multiplayer,” and “UI” would stand for “user interface.” All of the files seem to be assets of the user interface portion of the battle royal game mode.

While Infinity Ward may have said that it wants to stay on the path of realism concerning Modern Warfare, a recent controversy involving the White Phosphorus killstreak has shifted things a little. Now it seems realism will be delegated to the single-player campaign while the multiplayer aspect of the game can be a little less restrained, meaning that it’s not out of the question for a battle royal mode to find its way into the game.

To further reinforce this idea, past leaks about a potential battle royal mode have also revealed extensive assets already in the coding files of Modern Warfare. All of the modes and maps coming to Call of Duty in the future will be free, so if a battle royal does make its way over, everyone will be able to enjoy it.

Thanks to the explosive popularity of Fortnight, nearly every video game with a gun – and even a few without – tends to find itself implementing a battle royal mode, and for a good reason. The game type is popular among shooter fans, and some games, despite it not being their core, have done it to great success. Call of Duty is no different in this regard. Fans loved seeing it in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and that game even went so far as to give the battle royale a zombie twist. The mode would be more than welcome in Modern Warfare. Whether or not it will be implemented remains to be seen, however.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
