Call of Duty: Modern Warfare recently confirmed that 3v3 Gunfight would be coming to the game, and now we have an exact release date. As it turns out, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3v3 Gunfight will be added in the January 14 playlist update, in what Infinity Ward is calling the Gunfight Trios playlist.

Unlike when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare added Gunfight OSP to the game, Gunfight Trios will not be replacing the standard 2v2 Gunfight mode. On the contrary, 2v2 Gunfight will remain its own distinct playlist while Gunfight Trios is in the game. It's unclear if 1v1 Gunfight will be staying in the game or not, as Activision didn't clarify in its recent blog post announcing the Gunfight Trios release date.

Gunfight Trios isn't the only new playlist that Modern Warfare fans can look forward to as part of the January 14 playlist update. January 14 will also see the return of two modes that have previously been in Modern Warfare but have since been cycled out. They are Cranked, where players have to get kills in quick succession or they explode, and Drop Zone, where players are rewarded with care packages by holding objectives.

It's likely that the popular Gun Game mode will be replaced by Cranked and Drop Zone, but that wasn't clarified in the Activision blog post. When Modern Warfare brought back Gun Game, it was implied that it would only be available in the game for a week, which is a shame as Gun Game has consistently been one of the franchise's most popular game modes since its introduction in the original Black Ops a decade ago.

While trying out these returning game modes and Gunfight TriosModern Warfare players will also be able to enjoy the benefits of yet another Double XP weekend. Player XP and Weapon XP will both be doubled from January 17 at 10am PT to January 21 at 10am PT, which should help players still trying to unlock everything available in Season One.

Modern Warfare Season One ends on January 28, so time is running out for players to unlock everything that it has to offer. No release date for Season Two has been announced at the time of this writing, but we imagine it will kick off not long after Season One has concluded.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
