Even though the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare reboot's existence had only been confirmed in the game's official announcement last year, it appears that at least some of its content could have been predicted by previous Call of Duty installments. Most notably, this includes 2009's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which includes a brow-raising reference to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

In last year's Call of Duty game, there is a mission called "Piccadilly," which puts players in the boots of Kyle Garrick as he responds to a terrorist attack in London. The mission acts as an intense introduction to both the player character and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's version of fan-favorite Call of Duty character Captain Price. This mission, the second in the game's campaign, was apparently foreshadowed in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

According to Reddit user NuclearFPS, who took a screenshot while playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a newspaper rendered in-game by Infinity Ward shows an image of the location in Piccadilly and details an event of terrorism that took place at the location. An image of the newspaper can be seen below.

As can be seen in the newspaper clipping above, the story details a bombing that had occurred at the Picadilly Circus, which appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, these events had been linked to one of the game's antagonists, Vladimir Makarov. Makarov's decision to bomb the Piccadilly Circus was evidently spurred by the killing of Imran Zakhaev in 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Further, the news story indicates that Makarov was going to continue his "campaign of terror" in Russia, as its government had been occupied by "weak men."

All in all, this is fairly interesting since 2009's Call of Duty entry essentially foreshadowed what 2019's Call of Duty installment would bring to the table. Not only does the Modern Warfare reboot's ending have some of 2007's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in it, but 2019's Modern Warfare can be seen in some of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

This does make one wonder if any other content from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was foreshadowed in the events of the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy. Perhaps there are clues in the original games' campaigns or even their multiplayer maps. Frankly, it might be worth considering other content and anecdotes in the original Modern Warfare trilogy like the story told in the newspaper as being linked to future games in this series of Modern Warfare titles.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
