Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer is inheriting a huge legacy of locations, fan-favorite maps, and namesakes, with many hoping that several classic maps are revised in some way. It's exciting for fans, for example, that Warzone 2 seemingly features Terminal, Quarry, and High Rise on its new map. But on the same level with those, if not perhaps more popular, is Rust.

Many Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 players have fond memories of the first Rust, with it being the "1v1 me" map that many enjoyed as a competitive proving ground. Rust first appeared in the original MW2, as it was derived from the Endgame mission, but it has also appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) and Call of Duty: Mobile. Modern Warfare (2019) added it as part of season two and Mobile added it as part of season six, and fans hope to see it in the new Modern Warfare 2. In fact, they can already "see" it.

As pointed out by Redditor nonvizo, Rust can be spotted via the Santa Sena 32v32 Ground War map. Many point out how Rust doesn't seem as sandy and rusty as the original take on the map, but it's definitely likely those elements come if Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 adds Rust as an independent map. Several fans seem to believe that it will come to the game as a 6v6 map, eventually.

In fact, some believe it could be the promised "fan-favorite" map coming in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 season 1. It would be certainly welcome among the other features coming when season 1 releases on November 16. This includes the launch of Warzone 2, the DMZ Mode, and the Battle Pass. Halfway through the season, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is adding Raids as well, which is a three-player co-op experience with a focus on strategy, puzzles, and combat. Indeed, it seems promising, but fans have a few weeks to enjoy the pre-season/season 0 period to learn the emerging Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 meta.

In the meantime, fans can keep their fingers crossed and hope the season 1 map is Rust. It could be something else, sure, but Rust coming to Modern Warfare 2 seems bound to happen.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
