Now that we know what Treyarch’s next Call of Duty game will be, Call of Duty: Black Ops (AKA Call of Duty 7: Black Ops), we can all breathe easy for we will have our holiday Call of Duty fix. But guess what, kiddies? Santa has something in store for the strange few of you who only have a Nintendo Wii. That’s right, you get Black Ops too!
Eurogamer.net has confirmed with Activision that there will be a Wii version of Black Ops. Does that mean it will be the same game? Possibly, but we all know there’s little chance of that. Either it will be a watered-down version or maybe even a *gasp* rail shooter. Ugh. Nothing like being able to play a game one-handed…
There’s reason to be skeptical here, considering the amount of good FPS on the Wii, namely, none. Unless you count Metroid, and we all know that Metroid doesn’t count (Sorry, Samus). It seems strange, clearly any die-hard fans of Call of Duty would have an Xbox 360 or a PS3, so where’s the market for this?
The other thing, something that we’ve already touched on, is what’s the deal with all these Call of Duty games? Some of us haven’t even taken out bank loans to purchase the stimulus package yet. What happens when there are more Call of Duty games than there are people in the military, or wars, or players of Call of Duty? What happens then? I’ll tell you what happens. Market saturation. Soon every man, woman, child, and chinchilla will own a copy of Call of Duty and will be bragging about their kill-death ratios.
What do you all think? At this point, is it possible to have a good Call of Duty game on the Wii? What about a good FPS on the Wii whatsoever? Are you psyched for Black Ops, or do you think you’ll still be playing Modern Warfare 2?
