Call of Duty: Black Ops Set for Digital Release on Steam

Call of Duty Black Ops Review

Call of Duty: Black Ops is the game that wants to make sure it jumps on as many gamer bandwagons as possible. If it doesn’t hit all the expected beats there will be tons of fans left disappointed. In order to keep up to date with the changing realm of game releases Activision is proud to announce that Black Ops, coinciding with its traditional retail release, will be available starting November 9th on Steam.

What better way to celebrate the release of one of the most anticipated titles of the year than by tying it with one of the strongest digital distribution platforms in the industry today. Gamers will be able to reap all of the traditional benefits of a Steam game including achievements, auto-updating, and support for the Steamworks Cloud Technology. If you are a PC gamer and you were planning on picking up Black Ops, which I think there are a few of you, then Steam seems like the best way to go.

As a venue for games, Steam is paving the way for what many hope to be the future of game releases. Lower prices and frequent discounts help Steam provide a better alternative to brick and mortar stores and alleviate many of the stresses that come with a hard copy of the game. There are still those moments where many languish Steam and wish they had gone the other route, but overall Steam is solid.

Black Ops’ multiplayer, especially on the PC, is shaping up to be the most bangs for your buck. With the mod tool availability and the return of dedicated servers there is a lot to take away from the PC version. But don’t feel left out console gamers there is still plenty of awesome contained within your version of the game. Pre-order today on Steam to get access to the game the second it releases.

How many gamers out there, after hearing this news, now plan to pick up Black Ops on Steam? Are the added PC features enough to sway you away from your console version?

Call of Duty: Black Ops releases November 9th for the PC, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and on Steam.
