Call of Duty development is headed by one of a few different studios depending on the year, and when Treyarch is in control, fans can expect something relating to zombies. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has delivered on the zombie-focused content, with a number of modes and events that involve slaughtering armies of the undead. The recently introduced Outbreak mode in Black Ops Cold War has provided a nice shakeup to the usual Zombies mode. Now, it appears that Outbreak is expanding.

Outbreak mode opens up the Zombies mode experience by allowing for more exploration of a map, as well as side quests and challenges that help players earn points and salvage. So far, the mode has been played on three of the Fireteam Dirty Bomb maps seen in Black Ops Cold War multiplayer. Outbreak comes close to the experience provided by TranZit from Black Ops 2. While TranZit's map in its original form is not well-loved by Call of Duty fans (due to hardware limitations at the time), there are many who feel it would be great to bring back and add to a mode like Outbreak.

Those hopes will have to wait just a bit, but Black Ops Cold War is expanding Outbreak with the addition of the Sanatorium Fireteam map to the rotation. Previously the mode only included the Ruka, Alpine, and Golova maps, with players rotating through the three maps as the level of difficulty increases. No indication yet as to when Sanatorium will be added, but a tweet announcing the coming addition should mean it will land soon.

Sanatorium was released as part of the Season 1 content in Black Ops Cold War slotting into the Fireteam maps rotation. Sanatorium has been well received by fans as an interesting map, it is just stuck in a game mode that fans are less enthusiastic about. There are a number of rumors that link these Fireteam maps to the new Warzone map, so fans who have purchased Black Ops Cold War could have an edge if Sanatorium does end up in Warzone.

Adding Sanatorium to Outbreak will give players the chance to run the map in a totally different game mode, and in a different game mode, there is a completely different weapon meta compared to multiplayer or Warzone. Zombie gameplay favors shotguns and LMGs, so players cruising Sanatorium may want to consider a new loadout if they jump into Outbreak. While some fans were hoping for a completely new map to be added, tossing in one that fans already like is a safe bet.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
