Despite kicking off a new story, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War keeps the tradition of original music alive. Firebase Z sees another song from Kevin Sherwood added to the game, with the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War map getting a quieter song than usual.
Going by the name “Lost,” the latest track sees a new artist providing the vocals. While Treyarch’s Zombies mode has seen licensed music from the likes of Eminem, Avengers Sevenfold, and Johnny Cash, original tracks have been performed by Elena Seigman, Clark S. Nova, and Malukah. Firebase Z changes things up, however, with Julie Nathanson doing the singing. For those interested in listening to some tunes as they fight the undead, here is how “Lost” can be played in-game.
As is usually the case, players can find three items to activate the hidden song Easter egg. Much like with “Alone” in the Die Maschine launch map, “Lost” is triggered by picking up three cassette tapes from around the map. Fortunately, all are easy to find, meaning that players of all skill levels should have no problem activating the secret song. The cassette tape locations are as follows:
- Cassette Tape 1: Found in the Village area. Players should head to the left side of the location, where Ravenov and the Pack-A-Punch machine are located. Next to the armor stand on the bottom floor is a set of stairs, which players should take up to the Scientist Quarters. As soon as they reach the top, they should see a shelf with the first cassette tape that needs to be picked up.
- Cassette Tape 2: The second tape is also found in the village area. This time, players want to head to the right side of the location, using Quick Revive and the Firebase Z teleporter as a reference to know they are in the right place. The cassette tape is in the Equipment Storage building, on the bookcase directly next to the locker opened during the Serum step of the main quest Easter egg and the Perk safe side quest.
- Cassette Tape 3: For the final cassette, players will want to leave the Village area and head to the actual Firebase. Heading through the right-hand gate, which has the returning Tombstone perk nearby as a source of reference, players will want to head into the motor pool office — the area players enter right before activating the generator and buying Juggernog. In the right corner of the room is a set of green filing cabinets, with the tape leaning up against them.

Once players have acquired all three tapes, the song will begin to play. While it would be an interesting track on its own, as the lyrics are focused on Samantha Maxis’ story, the source of the vocals gives the song a special touch. This is because the singer of “Lost,” Julie Nathanson, is actually the voice actress for Samantha Maxis. Given the fact that Sam’s rescue is the focus of the map, hearing Nathanson sing a song about her character is truly poetic, helping the latest song stand out from what has come before.
With the only downside to the song being that it is not yet playable through the War Tracks system of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it is safe to say that Sherwood and Nathanson succeeded in making this latest track something special. While there are several intriguing Easter eggs in Firebase Z, it is great to see so much meaning given to the map's song.
