Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies fans have been waiting patiently for Season 4 Reloaded, as the big midseason update is introducing Mauer Der Toten to the game. Alongside the debut of this new map, Treyarch is making some much-needed changes to the gameplay of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies.

Since launch, Sniper Rifles have been mostly useless in the latest iteration of Treyarch’s Survival mode. Seen at the bottom of many Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies weapon tier lists, the Sniper class simply lacks the bullet penetration needed to take out a train of Zombies. While they work fine on mini bosses, using up a weapon slot on a gun just to take down bigger enemies is wasteful. However, Sniper Rifles are finally becoming more viable thanks to the latest update.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Season 4 Reloaded Update makes several changes to Zombies, though the Sniper changes are among the most exciting. The Swiss K31, LW3 Tundra, and ZRG 20mm are all getting more critical hit damage, with stock ammo also increased. The Pelington 703 gets a similar boost in addition to a max damage buff. The M82 gets a damage and stock increase, too. Alongside these changes, Pack-A-Punched melee weapons will do more damage, while Tier 3 Pack-A-Punched weapons of any kind will boast a higher damage multiplier.

These Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies changes come courtesy of fan complaints, as Treyarch had recently made things harder for high round players. While the goal was to make the game more challenging, the adjustment ended up slowing high round progress to a halt. With Zombies taking so many bullets to kill, pushing for a higher round became less fun. Fortunately, the Season 4 Reloaded balancing changes should make a difference. Enemy armor has been lowered by 30%, with all Zombies and mini bosses having significantly less health.

Alongside the balancing pass, a new feature called Dynamic Wall Buys is being added. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fans will now see their wall buys increasing in rarity as a match goes on, meaning that an uncommon gun can transform into a legendary gun after enough rounds have passed. The guns have a chance to increase in rarity every five rounds, meaning that gamers should keep an eye on their favorite wall buys. For those respawning in a high round or rejoining after a disconnect, this feature should be a life saver.

With Mauer Der Toten’s release being imminent, these changes come at a perfect time. As players fight through Berlin, they should no longer have a problem killing the undead — especially with a Sniper Rifle equipped.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
