The release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has reinvigorated the Zombies community, and it seems like Treyarch is doing all it can to keep players invested in the latest version of the round-based survival mode. Recently teasing that new Zombies content is coming for 115 Day, fans have already started to speculate about what could be in store for the annual celebration of Call of Duty Zombies, as it seems like the sky is the limit regarding potential additions to the game.

While there are plenty of small things that Treyarch can do to make the day special for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players, such as a Double XP event, it seems likely that the studio has more in store for fans on January 15. By teasing the special date’s content a full week before its arrival, Treyarch has silently promised that some major content will be announced next Friday. With everything from new map teasers to the addition of major gameplay systems seen in previous iterations of Zombies, there are some exciting things that 115 Day can (and should) bring to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

New Map Teasers And A Standalone Nacht Der Untoten

While some fans will be quick to overhype themselves and set expectations regarding the arrival of a new Zombies map, it is important to remember that the first new Zombies location will come in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2. However, that does not mean that no map-related news will arrive on 115 Day, as the special date serves as the perfect chance for Treyarch to start teasing Season 2’s Zombies map. New intel items in Die Maschine that hype up the map’s arrival are likely, with screenshots and trailers of the map’s gameplay being equally possible.

Providing Treyarch with a full month to build excitement for the new map before releasing it, a similar pattern to the one used in the previous schedule for Treyarch Zombies releases could be taking place. Previous leaks have revealed that the map will likely be called Firebase Z, taking place in an expanded version of a military outpost from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s campaign. By glitching out of the area in the game’s story mode, players found buildings and signs from the classic Call of Duty Zombies map Shi No Numa—seemingly confirming that Firebase Z will include Shi No Numa like Die Maschine includes Nacht Der Untoten.

Speaking of Nacht Der Untoten, the original Zombies leak that detailed Firebase Z confirmed that a standalone version of the map would also be coming to the game. Functioning as a small survival map and playing like the classic version of Nacht seen in Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, the addition of the map could serve as a great way to freshen things up for Zombies fans. While the gameplay is simple and lacks many of the features that make modern Zombies maps so fun, plenty of players enjoy the more casual experience. As such, including a closed off version of Nacht Der Untoten as a bonus map could help kill the time until Season 2, allowing old school Zombies fans to enjoy a bit of nostalgia for 115 Day.

The Arrival Of Tombstone?

Perhaps the most likely addition to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War come 115 Day is Tombstone Soda. Not only was a Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War version of Tombstone teased via an official image on Treyarch’s Twitter, but its perk machine jingle has been leaked as well. Confirmed to be coming to the game at some point in time, there seems like no better time for Treyarch to add the perk to Zombies than on January 15, though it'll hopefully come with some improvements.

With Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s upgradeable perk system allowing for Tombstone to be far more useful than it was on TranZit, the perk’s addition could be wildly exciting for Zombies fans.

Fan-Requested Improvements And Special Cosmetics

Finally, with 115 Day allowing Treyarch to be open with fans regarding the past and present of Call of Duty Zombies, the celebration could lead to some heavily requested improvements to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Fans could see Treyarch improving on the recently introduced daily challenge system, allowing players to pin quests to their pause menu so that progress can be viewed in-game. Rather than forcing players to estimate the progress made while also fighting the undead, challenge tracking could be a great improvement on the game’s current setup.

The other big improvement that could come to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is directly tied to Die Maschine as a map. While the response to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies’ new armor system has been largely positive, as the upgrade is more effective than the Zombie Shield seen in previous entries, it is still a bit frustrating to repair the armor. Refreshing the protective gear requires a trip all the way down to the Pack-A-Punch area, as only one armor mannequin exists in the map. A major quality-of-life addition could see a second armor stand placed somewhere in Nacht Der Untoten, letting players stay on the map’s upper level if they so choose.

Aside from challenge tracking and eliminating an unnecessarily long walk from Die Maschine’s gameplay loop, special bundles can be added to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s store. With free cosmetic packs added for Nuketown’s release as well as Christmas Day, Treyarch could easily do the same for 115 Day. Providing Zombies players with emblems, watches, and calling cards to celebrate the special occasion, a free store pack could be a great way for Treyarch to show appreciation for the mode’s dedicated fanbase. Paid bundles could appear in the store as well, with special outfits that see the operators of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War dressing up like classic characters from Zombies. With so much potential for teasers, updates, and cosmetics, this year’s 115 has a lot of potential.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
