A new Call of Duty is once again on the horizon, which means fans will once more have an opportunity to try it out early. Now that a handful of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players have had a chance to try out Black Ops Cold War’s alpha, they’re now gearing up for the game’s beta. Not everyone will be able to get in right away, but internet service provider Xfinity is providing a way to guarantee access to it as soon as it becomes available next month.

With only a few weeks to go before the full game finally launches, players on PC and current-gen consoles will have the opportunity to get a taste of the changes coming to its multiplayer. According to the official schedule for Black Ops Cold War’s beta, the beta will be split into a number of two-day chunks throughout October, starting with early access betas for those who pre-ordered the game and followed by open betas where everyone can take part.

Being an internet service provider, Xfinity might not have much presence in the gaming community outside of the modems Xfinity users should consider using in 2020, but this week it announced that it has partnered with Activision to give out early access codes for its customers. This will ensure that all interested customers will be able to access the early betas from October 8-9 (on PS4) and October 15-16 (on all platforms) without having to put money down on the game first, in addition to the open betas from October 10-12 (PS4) and October 17-19 (all platforms).

An Activision FAQ goes into greater detail from here. From now until October 18, Xfinity users can head to www.xfinity.com/callofduty and register for an early access code for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's beta using their Xfinity account email. Activision notes that it should take around 24 hours at the most for the code to be emailed to them, but from there they can head to the official COD website, select their platform of choice, and redeem the code (provided they have a COD account, that is). Then, within a few hours of the first available beta’s start, Activision will email a new platform-specific code they can use to get in.

As brief as these beta periods will be next month, they should give players (and Xfinity customers especially) enough time to get a feel for a number of Black Ops Cold War’s new and returning modes. It should also go a long way towards satisfying their hunger for more COD for the remaining weeks until the full game finally drops.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches November 13 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
