The success of the Call of Duty series over the years is undeniable. The name Call of Duty has stretched beyond video games and into pop-culture, and the franchise seems to be doing better than ever, as  2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare became the highest selling in the series. And now, Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War looks to continue that success, as the beta recently became the most downloaded yet.

Leading up to the highly anticipated launch of Black Ops: Cold War, both an alpha and beta were released for the game's multiplayer. And just like the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War alpha was the highest downloaded COD alpha in PS4 history, the beta saw a similar triumph.

In a tweet from the official @CallofDuty Twitter page, it was announced that the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer beta was the most downloaded in the history of the Call of Duty franchise. The beta lasted two weekends, first exclusively on the PS4 for one weekend, and then on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC the next weekend.

The tweet is a quick thank you to fans for making the beta so successful. Players were able to play multiple different modes on various maps during the Black Ops Cold War beta. Some of the content was the same as the alpha, however, new maps such as Ruka and Alpine were added to the beta. Meanwhile, the beta was also the first time players were able to try the new four-team Fireteam game mode, specifically Fireteam Dirty Bomb.

Fireteam Dirty Bomb in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a unique new mode for Call of Duty. Played on very large maps, teams of four compete against each other, with a total of 40 players, to blow up bomb sites and stop other teams from doing the same. It also takes aspects from Warzone as well, including the armor plate functionality for added health and parachuting.

The multiplayer in Black Ops Cold War looks to be a mix of new, classic modes, and even Warzone integration. Expected modes, like TDM and Domination, will be played on small arena-style maps. Meanwhile, large scale battles take place on big maps, and Fireteam modes allow for team-oriented action. The maps that were built for Fireteam also may make up the new Warzone map, as Cold War will see integration with the battle royale, and even likely introduce tons of new content.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release on November 13th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
