Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 1 rolls on. Since the season started, most of the attention has been focused on the integration of Black Ops Cold War weapons into Warzone. With the overpowered DMR-14 finally feeling more balanced after back-to-back nerfs, and with Season 1 now reaching its midpoint, Call of Duty players are being encouraged to drop in for a few matches to take advantage of an upcoming Double Weapon XP event.

The mid-season update has become something of a staple for Call of Duty, with Modern Warfare making use of it last year, and Black Ops Cold War continuing to use the midway point as a time to add a bit more content. This update has a heavier focus on multiplayer content for Cold War, offering a number of maps and modes to keep players who paid for the game happy.

As Black Ops Cold War approaches the midpoint of Season 1, there are a number of maps, game modes, and extra content to explore. Season 1 Reloaded is out now, with some additional pieces to fall into place in a few weeks time. As with previous mid-season updates, a Double XP event is also on the way, starting on Friday, January 15 and going until Tuesday, January 19. This time around it will be a Double Weapon XP event taking place in both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

The timing is perfect for players who are looking for a new gun to use now that the DMR is not ruining the meta. There are a number of underrated Warzone loadouts that could become more viable, so giving players a chance to level up some of these weapons is great.

After a tumultuous launch that saw the return of a number of glitches that many hoped would never reappear, like the infamous Stim Glitch, it seems developers Treyarch and Raven Software are starting to get a handle on the situation. The developers are addressing issues faster, and this new content seems to be exciting for players. In particular, many fans are interested in the new Sanatorium map, which some speculate will be a part of the new Warzone battle royale map expected to launch in March.

Along with the Double Weapon XP event this weekend, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is also opening up its Zombies mode for all to try out for a week. One of the staples of the Treyarch-developed COD titles, Zombies is a big draw for many, and offering a free trial is likely a move to get folks to buy Black Ops Cold War which is lagging in sales just a bit, compared to last year's Modern Warfare.

A Double Weapon XP weekend usually brings back a good chunk of the player base, so expect a busy weekend in multiplayer and Warzone.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
