Although the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer was filled with recognizable and familiar characters, there are some new members to the cast that remain a mystery. Treyarch, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's developer, has released new information regarding their main character's pasts and motivations in the campaign.

Fans have been excited for the return of Black Ops character Alex Mason, Frank Woods, and Jason Hudson. All three characters are clearly seen at President Reagan's table, but attention has quickly turned towards the unknown member of the group.

The unknown man is Russel Adler, a key operative in CIA operations when it comes to investigating Soviet activity. He leads a group of talented individuals from varying organizations that come together in a "Black Ops" unit that works on specialized projects of international interest. With Mason, Woods, and Hudson involved fans automatically know that Adler means business when it comes to international security.

Little is known about Russel Adler before the year 1966, when he officially joined the CIA. After being assigned to a MACV-SOG unit in Vietnam he earned a reputation for completing difficult assignments. Murray Kraft, the lead writer for Raven Software, describes him as a "Black Box" that keeps his past closed. Post his Vietnam deployment, he disappears from CIA's official records but does continue to affiliate with the organization on a case by case basis. He holds a deep knowledge of covert tactics, is fluent in Russian and German, and is a master of espionage.

Helen Park appeared in the Black Ops Cold War RTX trailer as one of the members of Adler's covert strike team. Originally a member of MI6, she is well versed in the origins and motivations or international para-military organizations. Kraft describes her relationship with Adler as respectful, but "isn't always pretty." After meeting Adler on a collaborative operation with the CIA she decided to put their skills together for the betterment of mankind. Although she works with Adler, her interest still remains with MI6 and the Crown.

These are only two of several characters that players will be working with in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. If all the characters have as deep and interesting a background as these two operatives, then fans are in for a treat. There is still a lot fans do not know about the upcoming release which makes every bit of information from Treyarch and Raven Software highly valued by fans.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release on November 13 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are in development.
