Earlier this year, Nintendo surprised fans by announcing the indie game Cadence of Hyrule, a mashup between The Legend of Zelda and Crypt of the NecroDancer. Development on the new game was handled by Brace Yourself Games, which is evidenced by the familiar gameplay that puts an emphasis on matching combat to the beat of the soundtrack. The game also features many classic Zelda locations, music, and items, some of which are required to access the first major dungeon inside Gerudo Desert.

Access to this area is restricted until players can find three hidden gears, which an NPC needs in order to lower a nearby bridge. Thankfully, the gears themselves aren't difficult to find, though they're easily missed if players are not actively looking for them. Here are the three locations of the missing gears in Cadence of Hyrule.

Gear Locations

Gear locations are fairly easy to spot once the Gerudo Desert is found due to the game using a randomly generated overworld. Once there, all players need to do is look for green banners inside the combat areas of Gerudo Desert. Players will also need to make sure they have a shovel available for use as the green banners indicate the location of a hidden entryway. Dig away the dirt and rubble to uncover a door into a new room. Inside, players will be faced with a small task that needs to be completed first in order to get the reward, which in this case is a gear.

Some mini-dungeons require all enemies to be defeated while others will feature a mini-puzzle, similar to how other items are obtained like the Zora's Flippers. One in particular will require that the player grab a nearby pot and throw it at a green block on a ledge so that it falls to the left and makes a platform to the treasure.

Alternatively, players may come across gears in locations around the desert. Typically, they require the player to solve some sort of simple puzzle in order to access them like moving blocks to make a platform.

Gear Reward

Once all three gears are obtained, head back to the bridge and speak with the NPC nearby in the main building. With the bridge lowered, players can now access the Gerudo Dungeon to face off against the first of four champions that players need to defeat in order to acquire a special instrument used to reach the primary antagonist Octavo. Inside the Gerudo Dungeon, the first of four enemy champions players come across are the Bass Guitarmos Knights.

Cadence of Hyrule is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
