Bungie has been responsible for some impressive franchises, namely the original Halo trilogy and the Destiny games. The company managed to make its mark with the critically acclaimed Halo games before becoming independent from Microsoft and creating its own path. With the incredible legacy of Bungie's original IPs, many are interested in the upcoming projects of the studio. It now seems that the company may be treading new ground in terms of genre and departing the Sci-fi genre, at least that is what a job listing suggests.

Many will be interested to see what new franchises Bungie presents, particularly after the somewhat mixed reception of the Destiny games. The series had a difficult time partly because of the shadow that the Halo series cast and also because of the issues that surround games as a service. For players who would like the developer to leave this business model, they may be disappointed despite what looks set to be a change in style for the company.

It seems that Bungie is working on a trademarked project called "Matter" and in a job listing, it is rumored to be a more light-hearted role-playing game with a focus on handheld weaponry rather than the guns that feature in Destiny. With that said, multiple job listings have described the game as being loot-based and working on a "game as a service" model and in this sense, the game will follow a business model that appears to be near-identical to that of Destiny. The genre looks to be the largest difference between Bungie's previous projects with the upcoming title being in the genre, as the upcoming title looks set to take place in "necromancer’s dungeon."

Fans of Destiny 2 will undoubtedly be happy that the gaming model is being lifted to a new genre,  as it has delivered continued entertainment. Destiny 2 has delivered frequent updates that have kept players invested in the title and this seems to be working for Bungie if the company is set to repeat the model. However, some players will be disappointed that the game as a service strategy is being utilized again and many will be nostalgic for more campaign-driven content like that which was the basis of the Halo games.

Players will be interested in what "Matter" delivers because of the reputation of Bungie and it will be interesting to see if the new IP can replicate the successful elements of Destiny 2 while improving on aspects that players criticized. If Bungie can do this, players may be interested in visiting a necromancer's dungeon and using handheld weapons.
