Prior to the Season of the Splicer, armor transmogrification had been one of the top fan requests for Destiny 2. The game has tons of different looking armor to collect, so fans wanted a way to change their appearance without detracting from certain stats they current had equipped. Bungie's solution to this request was the Armor Synthesis system, which also heralded the return of the Black Armor vendor, Ada-1.

However, fans quickly noticed that the system Bungie was installing for Season 14 was needlessly cumbersome, adding in three different resources to grind for, new bounties, and multiple steps just to be able to unlock a new visual look. Worse yet, each season would be getting a cap, meaning that players couldn't earn more than 10 Synthweave per character, an item required to use transmog. All in all, the system left fans disappointed and upset, especially when one fan calculated that would take roughly 13 years with the current Transmog system to unlock every armor piece in the game.

With the current season quickly coming to an end in a few weeks, Bungie has slowly started revealing plans for the upcoming season. In this week's update, Bungie revealed that it had heard all of the fan feedback on the Armor Synthesis system and as such, would be removing the second step from the transmog process. Synthstrand, which is earned through defeating enemies while playing, is a required element for taking on bounties from Ada. Completing the bounty earns players the highly coveted material Synthweave, which is what unlocks armor pieces as universal ornaments.

Destiny 2 Confusing Transmog System

With Synthstrand gone, players can simply by Ada-1 bounties for 10,000 glimmer, making the transmog process much faster than it was previously. In addition to help players move through the process faster, the change was made to reduce the complexity of the Armor Synthesis system in general while also removing another consumable from the game, something that Destiny 2 already has a lot of for various things.

The change to Armor Synthesis is just the next piece of the Season 15 puzzle, following in the footsteps of the numerous sandbox changes that Bungie revealed earlier this month. Season 15 is shaping up to be a big one as the studio prepares to pull the curtain back on it on August 24 alongside the major Witch Queen expansion reveal. Considering how big the game's narrative has become in recent seasons, fans appear to be in for a wild ride as Savathun continues to make moves against The Last City.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
