The Destiny game franchise is a huge money-maker for developer Bungie. Destiny 2 has had the biggest console game launch of the year so far and millions of players are engaged in the game. It's a piping hot property that will continue to be a top earner in the time to come.

But despite Destiny being the cash cow that it is, Bungie is already thinking of ideas for its next game project. During a recent interview with the BBC, Bungie co-founder Jason Jones revealed that the developer is "starting in a small way to look at what's beyond Destiny."

The developer explained that "Every time you do a new thing to surprise and delight people you risk being ignored". Jones added that "you could make your hand very tired writing down all the risks going into a new game project, but unless you're taking risks then you're not going to do something people care about."

Given that Destiny's connected world was seen as somewhat of a risk when it launched fans will be eager to see if the developer can reinvent the wheel the next time around.

Best Destiny 2 moments

During the interview, Jones also talked about the criticisms of the first Destiny, such as the lackluster story. Destiny 2 has a larger focus on story, which has mostly gone down well with fans, and it will be interesting to see if that approach to story-telling carries over to Bungie's next project.

However, it could be quite some time until Bungie formally announces what it is working on outside of its hit shooter franchise. Jones confirmed that right now the developer is focusing on Destiny 2 and keeping players of its new game happy. Although the game has got off to a white-hot start in terms of critical and sales success, there's still a lot that needs to be done in terms of post-launch support.

For example, Bungie is preparing to unveil and release the first part of the Destiny 2 DLC expansion pass, which will challenge players with brand new content. There are also things like the Leviathan raid challenges and other tweaks and smaller features to keep players entertained for even longer.

Additionally, the PC release of Destiny 2 is right around the corner and Bungie will have its work cut out adding new features to that and fixing any bugs that arise. That will take priority over the studio's non-Destiny project, but hopefully, Bungie will release a few more tidbits about its other developments soon.

Destiny 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases on October 24, 2017 for PC.
