Destiny 2 developer Bungie is going through yet another round of targeted harassment, forcing the studio to close down comments on its recent YouTube showcase. Historically, Bungie has often provided post-launch summaries of the production of a given piece of content, and something similar was provided via the latest Developer Insights video featuring the artwork of the Lightfall DLC.

While it quickly became apparent that Destiny 2: Lightfall has many problems that need to be resolved, some community members have decided to forego constructive critique and instead target Bungie developers wherever it's possible to do so. This has come to a head in comments section of the Lightfall Developer Insights video discussing artwork, with the featured Bungie artists seemingly taking the brunt of it.

It's fairly well known by now that Destiny 2 has been the target of numerous harassment incidents, many of which took place last year specifically, with the situation culminating in serious threats and more. These issues haven't gone away, it would appear, as Bungie ended up having to turn off the comments for the recent Developer Insights video. While there's no remaining record as to what was said specifically, it seems to have been problematic, to say the least.

It wasn't long ago that Dylan Gafner, former Bungie community manager, said that harassment from Destiny 2 players is inevitable, no matter the type of interaction. Gafner, also known as dmg04, is a long-time Destiny fan who transitioned into the role of community manager after being a member of that very community himself, and his argument certainly appears to be ringing true. Destiny franchise director Josh Deane also chimed in on the issue, saying that Bungie will "always shut interaction down" following personal attacks.

While some appear to believe that Bungie closed down the comments on the featured video due to not wanting to deal with criticism, others have explained that this is not at all what happened. Twitter user justaddwatter said that there were "a lot of awful people" chiming in, and Bungie's track record of dealing with threatening behavior vouches for the studio's low tolerance for targeted harassment.

The Destiny 2 community praised Bungie's openness ahead of the release of the Lightfall DLC, but there are still bad apples who invariably end up spoiling things for everyone else. While there's certainly an argument to be made that locking down comments under a video might not be the best way of dealing with harassment, it's hard to overstate how serious such problems have become.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
