Even though the PlayStation 5 reveal event featured a slew of new and exciting games, one game that, surprisingly, took the industry by storm was Bugsnax. Fans were excited and perplexed by the game's unique atmosphere and premise, with some people thinking the game might be a secret horror game. Now, that theory has been a bit validated, as the game's creative director commented that the title takes inspiration from one of the more famous horror-inspired games: Bioshock.

Kevin Zuhn, the aforementioned creative director, talked about the game in a brand new interview with GameRevolution, where he also reiterated some of the game's other inspirations, including Ape Escape, Viva Pinata, Pokemon Snap, and Dark Cloud.

While the BioShock comparison may sound a bit weird at first, Zuhn explained that Bugsnax takes more from Bioshock's gameplay than it does its story, with the player "setting a lot of traps" and exploring an interesting and unique world. He also compared the set-up for the game's story to the one for Bioshock, with the main character given a mysterious invitation.

Given the fact that Bugsnax takes more inspiration from the gameplay, fans probably shouldn't expect to see Bioshock's unique, creepy atmosphere within the game. Still, even with the explanation given, the connection to the latter game is a weird one.

While it's easy to see the comparison to Bioshock from a set-up perspective, only time will tell if the comparison to the gameplay makes sense. Right now, gamers haven't seen anything from the game since its original reveal in early June, so anything's possible.

Bugsnax is set to come to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Epic Games Store in holiday 2020.
